TFA 100 Arterial Function Test   [+] See PDF

TFA 100 has been developed to record proportional changes of blood volume of the forearm including the pulsating behavior of the radial artery.

A couple of metallic ECG-standard electrodes is located, preferably following the radial artery, approximately to 2 cm below antecubital fold, separated 5cm to 10cm between them.

A sphygmomanometry cuff is placed in the upper arm over the record site and is automatically inflated 50 mmHg abover the systolic pressure for 3 minutes (suprasystolic occlusion).

TFA 100 data record and storage are performed from 30sec before cuff occlusion (basal) up to 3min after release the cuff using a microcontrolled system.

The typical arterial pulse waveform obtained during the test is used to calculate some indeces:

1. Stiffness Index
2. Reflexion Index
3. Vasomotor response (reactive hyperemia)

Features

TFA 100 has the following characteristics:

• Is a simple non-operator dependent measurement which is well tolerated by the patient
• Small size (similar to an arterial pressure automatic detector) and low weight
• Full battery-operated (compliant to the international guidelines for medical equipment)
• Include an external battery-charger (with automatic disconnection)
• Display that allows the clinician/nurse to monitor the occlusion protocol in easy and safe form (indicates the steps to follow)
• Automatic calculation of indices of vascular health
• Includes a oclusor cuff that is inflated and deflated automatically
• Successful measurement in patients with anatomical differences (obese, thin, great or small dimensions) iIncorporating an automatically gain control
• 5 patient storage capacity
• Stored data can be uploaded in a PC

1. Involved Pathologies

TFA 100 can be used, in principle, in patients with pathologies that involve a deterioration of vascular function including hypertension, peripheral arterial disease, arterial obstruction in lower extremities, carotid disease, diabetes associated vascular disease, hiperlipidemia, among others.

2. Involved Medical Specialities

TFA 100 is an alternative technology that can contribute to the cardiovascular diagnosis being non excluding, that is, the medical diagnosis is based on the obtained evidence of several studies that contribute to explain the profile of each pathology. Some of the medical areas in which it can contribute are:

- General Cardiologists
- Vascular Medicine
- Hypertension Specialists
- Stress Clinics

all associated to:
• Risk Stratification,
• Early detection of changes in endothelium response
• Treatment planning
• Drug studies

- Diabetolgist
• to monitoring vascular disease
• Risk stratification
• treatment planning and drug studies.

- Cardiovascular Drug Trials.
- Functionality evaluation of new devices or new technologies that affect/interacts with the blood vessels (e.g. stents)
- Preventive medicine and public health epidemiology

Finally, we emphasized that VascuTest VT100 has been rigorously proven in approximately 800 patients in the Vascular Medicine office of the General Hospital Lamadrid de Monteros, Tucumán (Argentina) during 2003-2004
